Dr. Zhanping You is a Distinguished Professor and University Professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geospatial Engineering at Michigan Technological University. He also serves as Director of the Michigan Tech Transportation Institute. Internationally recognized for his work in sustainable transportation infrastructure, Dr. You specializes in using recycled and bio-based materials—including waste tire rubber, reclaimed asphalt, recycled plastics, waste cooking oil, and roof shingles—in asphalt mixtures. A licensed professional engineer, he has led over 100 externally funded projects and conducted more than 30 full-scale field demonstrations. He has published over 400 peer-reviewed papers, garnering more than 26,000 citations. His research integrates performance-based design, life cycle assessment, micromechanical modeling, and advanced materials characterization. Dr. You serves as Associate Editor for multiple ASCE journals and is a Fellow of ASCE and EMI.
